Citizens Who Care, Helping those who help others, is a Bundaberg based organisation.
Citizens Who Cared (CWC) was formed in July 2006 to raise much needed funds to support the McGrath Foundation in placing Breast Care Nurses in City and Rural areas of Australia to provide support to those who have and are recovering from the effects of breast cancer.
In July 2006 CWC began the daunting task of setting a Guinness World Record for the longest bra chain in the world. The main aim of this task was to raise awareness of breast cancer in women and men and raise funds for financial support to the Foundation. After three years and one month , (3 1/12 years), CWC set a new record measuring 163Km using 166437 bras.
With the assistance of the Foundation and the support from Bundaberg Hospital and CWC efforts the hospitals request for and the support of the Breast Care Nurse and the provision of further financial support the first breast care nurse in Queensland was placed at the Hospital. This position has been filled for three years and has been such a blessing that support to the local and surrounding communities, a second nurse has been appointed.
CWC continued to provide financial assistance to other national and local organisations, Prostate cancer Foundation of Australia, Meals On Wheels, Bundaberg; Royal Flying Doctors, Bundaberg Base; Sunshine Coast rescue Helicopter, Bundaberg; Leukamia Foundation, Cancer Council of Australia and other worthy organisations. This support is provided by CWC ongoing fundraising business of “Scrap Metal for Charity”.
This business would not survive if it was not for the generosity of local businesses and community members donating old scrap metal items to our cause. With continued support CWC will further provide much needed financial support to those organisation who continue to find it hard to supply such needed assistance in aiding those less fortunate.
To date, CWC has raised and donated a figure nearing $400k since beginning their operation in 2006. With your support by donating old metals, washing machines, hot water systems, other white goods, old vehicle parts or old vehicles, irons and other metals CWC will continue their ongoing efforts. If you wish to assist in providing a better life for those less fortunate, you may donate money to the cause (receipts issued in favour of the supported charity) or donate you old scrap metal.
